Neale Howells' works responds to a world of accumulated images, text and ideas which overlap, blend and compete with one another on found and discarded panels which are sometimes joined together or recycled from earlier paintings. Although the works may seem arbitrary, they usually rely on solid compositional techniques and are worked on steadily until the artist is happy with the overall visual effect, with the text behaving just as any other colour or form within the painting as a whole. The words themselves are often taken from very unexotic sources such afternoon plays on BBC Radio 4, and are never intended to imply a specific message or theme but instead add to the accrued chaos and information overload the artist sees in the world around us.
I suoi lavori rispondono ad un mondo di immagini accumulate, testi e idee si sovrappongono, si fondono l'un l'altre su pannelli 'di scarto' che sono spesso messi insieme o riciclati da precedenti quadri. Anche se i lavori sembrano 'arbitrari', si basano quasi sempre su una solida tecnica compositiva e non sono considerati terminati finché l'artista non si ritiene felice per l'effetto complessivo. I testi si comportano come se fossero pennellate. Le parole stesse, spesso prese da fonti non particolarmente esotiche come drammi radiofonici della BBC, non intendono mai veicolare un messaggio specifico ma si aggiungono al caos e ad un sovraccarico di informazione che l'artista percepisce nel mondo che ci circonda.
